    All About Vaporizers

    All About Vaporizers

With so many vaporizers and vaporizer companies popping up all over the place in recent months, it can be a tough decision when choosing something new for your collection. There are a couple of things to consider when it comes to finding the right vaporizer to fit your needs. Ask yourself, “how much money am I willing to spend?” “is it for flowers or concentrates?” “do I want this thing to be portable or just something to have at home?"

Whatever your needs may be, we have compiled what we consider to be the best handheld and desktop vapes.

    Desktop Vapes

To start it off, we have the Volcano by Storz and Bickel. This is the Lamborghini of vaporizers and has set the standard for others to follow. There are two different iterations of the Volcano, the Classic and Digital. The Classic has a bi-metallic thermostat with rotary dial for controlling the temperature and has a heat range of 266°F - 446°F; it’s also effortless to use. The Digitals’ only real differentiating trait is the large LED Display and the slightly lower minimum temperature of 104°F, but with the LED Display you do get pinpoint precision over the temperature. Overall, the Volcano is a powerhouse and delivers on the quality of vapor that it produces. Let’s not forget to mention the ease of use when you’ve got multiple friends in a session with its extremely unique Easy Valve and vapor bag delivery system that can be quickly passed around until it’s empty; then it's just as simple to fill it back up and keep the rotation going.

    Classic - $478.99

    Digital - $598.99

Another excellent desktop vape would have to be the VaporBrothers Vaporizer.  With two beautiful wood finishes to choose from, this makes for a solid choice for both the beginner vaper or the vaping veteran. More of a solo session style vape, this thing produces some tasty vapor with is porcelanite heating element. VaporBrothers are the originators of the glass on glass whip-style handpiece. Something else worth noting is that VaporBrothers handcrafts each unit in California and their number one concern is the health and safety of the end user, so you can rest assured knowing that the utmost care went into the design of this product.

    Natural - $183.99

    Dark Coffee - $183.99

The last desktop vape we’re talking about is the Silver Surfer from 7th Floor Vapes. This vaporizer is super straightforward, each vape comes with a custom hand-blown glass temperature knob to ensure that no two Silver Surfers are alike, and it comes in a couple of different colors, so you know that you will be able to find something that vibes just right with your style.  As an added plus, it comes with a padded carrying case.  Badass right?  Another cool thing about this vape is the ceramic heating element. The only real downside to this unit is that you can’t know exactly where you are setting the temperature but once you find that sweet spot you will be blowing clouds of some excellent quality vapor. The Silver Surfer is built and tested by hand in Colorado, USA. Worth considering if you are on the hunt for a new desktop vape.

    Green/Purple - $289.99

    Green/Yellow - $289.99

    Black/Green - $289.99

    Silver/Blue - $269.99

    Silver/Black - $269.99

    Silver/Green - $269.99

    Handheld Vapes

In recent years, we have seen technological improvements that allow us to create extraordinarily portable and efficient vaporizers.  Whether you’re looking for something for flowers, concentrates, or both, there is something to fit your needs. We will be talking about a concentrate vape, a flower vape, and a hybrid.

If you haven’t heard of the Linx Hypnos Zero, then let me introduce you to one of the best concentrate pens available.  Featuring a ceramic plate atomizer for flavorful low-temp hits, four temperature settings, great air pathways, and a battery life that beats most other comparable pens on the market, this pen is hard to beat when it comes to concentrate vaporization on-the-go. There are really only two negative things that you can say about this pen: The mouthpiece can get dirty fairly quickly, and the amount of vapor produced is not as thick as standard concentrate pens with an actual coil, but the purity of flavor this pen delivers will never have that burnt dab taste.  A trade-off well worth it, right?

    Hypnos Zero - $74.99

Next, we have the DaVinci IQ.  Offering up some incredibly delicious vapor from its completely ceramic oven and vapor path, this is probably the best conduction vape available. What isn’t there to like about this vape?  It looks and feels great in your hands, is extremely easy to load, produces quality vapor, has replaceable 18650 batteries, an app, haptic feedback, and the list goes on.  The pros heavily outweigh the cons for this piece.  If I had to say something negative about the IQ is how you have to fully load the oven to get the best vapor, but DaVinci is one-step ahead of the game with a built-in spacer on the oven. The pearl is mounted on a silicone post that is threaded, and you can turn the pearl on the post to adjust and reduce the size of your bowl by 30%. They do have spacers on their site now so you can get economical with your chamber loads!  Overall, a fantastic handheld flower vape.

    DaVinci IQ - $274.99

One of the most well-known and established names in handheld vaporizers, we had to wrap things up with the PAX 3.  Just recently they realized some new matte colorways, which look incredible. The PAX 2 already improved upon everything that the original PAX fell short with: simpler mouthpiece, an even more slick design, and upgraded heating and airways. In comes the PAX 3 that just improved even more on the heating element introduced concentrate compatibility, haptic feedback, and a smartphone app.  The PAX 3 somehow heats up even faster than the PAX 2, going from cold to hot in about 30 seconds from a full charge, and gets back up to temperature within about 5 or so seconds between draws.  While the PAX is a beautiful and well functioning piece of equipment, it has its shortcomings. The first thing would be that the polished metallic finish makes it very hard to hide any scratches or dings, although that it is a minor complaint.  Another thing is the metal oven, which transfers heat a little less efficiently than some similar vapes out there. Finally, while the added concentrate accessories are a nice addition, they could be improved on to make the PAX 3 a more viable competitor in the concentrate arena.

    PAX 3 Black - $249.99

    PAX 3 Gold - $249.99

    PAX 3 Matte Finishes - $249.99

There are, of course, so many different options that are available right now and this was just a small offering of what is out there, and we hope to have helped you achieve a clear and better understanding of what exactly it is that you are looking for in a vaporizer.

    Measuring your Downstem

    Measuring your Downstem

Downstems are that fragile part of your bong that reaches into the pipe and creates the all-too-important airflow into water needed for a water pipe to do its thing. Unfortunately, downstems can break. No need to fear though. When your daily driver takes a spill and needs a new part, we're here to help you find the size and length of the downstem with a few simple steps.

Here is how downstems work. First, you need to understand the ground joint sizing. Ground joints are used in a set, consisting of the male inner piece (with a conical end, ground on the outside) and the female outer piece (ground on the inside to the corresponding dimensions). Their measurements are in millimeters.

Ideally, you will want to find a ruler. If you don't have one, then a new pencil is about 7 inches or 200mm. A dime is about 19mm wide. You'll need a pencil and a dime. Look in your couch cushions for either. Take the old downstem of your water pipe and set is aside for now.

If you can place a dime over the female ground joint of your bong and it doesn't slide inside, then it is a 14mm ground joint. If it can slide inside the hole, then it is an 18mm or 19mm joint. Also if you can't slide a pencil into the hole, then it is a 10mm joint.

Once you have the downstem size you need the length. Slide a pencil into the female ground joint of your pipe and make a mark on the pencil the depth of the downstem. This is the entire length of the downstem, but downstems lengths are given without the length of the joint. The ground joint is usually about one inch long, so subtract that from the pencil mark length. What remains is your downstem length. It may sound complicated, but we promise it's not!

    The STAX Primer

Smoking is cool. You cannot argue that it's not, humans have been doing it for like 7000 years. We love it, and we love finding out new ways of breathing in combusted or vaporized molecules of delicious particles. The satisfaction of having a new piece, stacking the perfect hit and checking out how the percs work for the first time is always a magical adventure for a smoking enthusiast. But not all of us can have a huge collection.

Some people don't have the budget or the storage space. That is where the STAX system shines. Variety, adventure, and experimentation. That is what you wanted after your first bong rip. With STAX, you can have it all.

The STAX line has been through rigorous research and development phases. The initial design fitted together with glass joints but did not make use of clips, and the pieces were enormous. Scaling each piece down and making the percs smaller was necessary to ensure that the pieces could work well together and not be cumbersome.

Eventually, the joints were molded with rims so that clips could be added to secure the different parts together. The line blossomed with variety once the initial design of the STAX was finalized. The real game changer came with the creation of the bubbler conversion. The showerhead downstem conversion let you change your setup into an entirely new piece. What was once a bong, is now a bubbler, and nothing will ever be the same.

Now in its fifth generation of redesign STAX has been honed into a perfect collection that is still growing. The recent release of new bases, redesigned percs, and new mouthpieces has significantly expanded the series.

STAX's value comes down to two things, functionality and customization. Ideally, you can keep all your pieces separated, and when the time comes to smoke, you can let your imagination be your guide. Not many things in life are like that. Most of the time you get what you get. Well, this is one of those extraordinary times when that phrase does not apply. STAX is whatever you want it to be. You can start small with just a base and a mouthpiece and then grow your collection one piece at a time. With around twenty pieces in the current line, the possibilities are astounding.

We all had the idea; Grav Labs just had the power to make it happen. Parts can be swapped out at will, and the types of combinations and styles you can produce are staggering. Want a Bubbler? Done. Want a bong designed to cool down your hit with every perc? No problem. How about a small Dab rig with minimal percolation? Easy. Want to hit a 6-foot tall, straight tube with an ice catch? STAX has you covered.

If you also have some of the accessories Grav Labs makes like ash catchers and chillers, then you can add even more variety to your setup. The sky is the limit. STAX is a brilliantly designed build-a-bong system that is truly modular and all borosilicate glass. What a time to be alive!

    Choosing the Perfect Recycler

If you enjoy dabbing, then you are probably no stranger to how cool recyclers can be. While they look impressive, people do not always understand what the recycling function brings to dabbing. Recycler rigs can seem complicated but the purpose they serve ultimately is pretty straightforward; cool down the hit while providing infinite, smooth draw. Scientific Dab Rig Recyclers achieve their perfect hit by using separate tubes. This separation allows heat to dissipate through repetitive water filtration and airflow. Recyclers feature backsplashes near the mouthpiece that ensure bubbles do not burst and cause water to get in your mouth. Dabbing veterans swear by the experience of glass recyclers because they take your low-temp rip to another level.

Recycler rigs are a serious investment, and you should consider them as such. We provide a broad range of Recyclers that range from $250-$900 depending on your specifications. When picking out a recycler, first know your budget and then decide on what kind of perc you would like. Should it restrict the flow some and create a long easy draw like the Dabology Puck Recycler, or would you prefer a large and quick rip from a big smoke chamber like the Klein from Grav Labs? Each of 420 Science's Glass Recycler Rigs is inspected for quality and consistency so that you know you are getting the best value for your money from many local United States glass artisans. It does not matter if you are new to Dabs or a seasoned vet, 420 Science has a quality made Recycler for you. Check out any of the pieces below for great recycling action.

    The Perfect Bong Rip

Not to brag, but we have our Pro-Card here. Hell, we have an R&D department, so we better. With lots of research comes knowledge, and we love imparting it on our friends. We test a ton of water pipes and oil rigs here. We're always looking for cool new pieces, and when we think we find one we put it through testing before we pick it up for sale in our online smoke shop. While water testing pieces we've learned a few tricks of the trade. Let's talk about the types of water to use, water level, and water temperature for the perfect bong rip.

The perfect bong hitGetting the perfect hit out of your water pipe is easier than you think, you just need a balanced temperature and percolation for the hit. Depending on what kind of water pipe you have, you'll want to go with on of two strategies. Either way, you'll want to use distilled water. Why? A few reasons. Distilled water is free of minerals, and won't leave deposits against your piece. It's also resistant to becoming cloudy at different temps, and that keeps your piece looking nicer too.

If you have a piece with an ice catch. Use less ice, most people put too much, you only need a couple pieces. Fill your Ice catch water pipe up with water until the end of the downstem is submerged an inch. The water should be at room temperature, 65-75°F. When you take a rip, the room temp water will percolate the water as it should but not cool it down by much. That's good because you want your hit to be neutral temp, not cold. Cold air is worse on your lungs than hot air. Once the still warm hot passes over the ice, it will be chilled down to a pleasant neutral temp, and you will only get a rich, flavorful, smooth hit. If you don't have an ice catch or a perc in your pipe, then you should treat yourself to a Chiller.

If you have a perc in your Water Pipe, then you can fill the bottom chamber with cold water, and the top chamber with the minimum amount of warm water. When you take a rip from your pipe, you will get a balanced, flavorful hit that isn't harsh or dry. When the cooled smoke passes back through the warm water, it has humidity added back into it which is easier on your throat. If you don't have a pipe with a perc in it, then check out our store, we have a few to choose from. So rip hard, rip often, and enjoy!
